Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is seeking a General Internal Medicine Specialist to provide comprehensive care within a multidisciplinary environment. The role involves diagnosing and managing patients with various internal medicine conditions and collaborating with a team of healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.

Responsibilities

Provide Internal Medicine care to the target population
Diagnose and manage patients with common and emergency internal medicine conditions, and are able to do so when the patient has multiple conditions and with limited access to other subspecialists
Provide comprehensive care of the adult patient in an integrated fashion as opposed to an organ-centered or disease-centered approach
Maintain stability of patients with multi-system disorders over the long-term or during physiological stresses such as during a complex acute medical condition or pregnancy related condition or the peri-operative period
Provide in patient care and work collaboratively with a team of physicians and other allied health care professionals
Provide low acuity (off site) support as a collaborative interdisciplinary team for TCU & PCH patients in surrounding communities
Support the Clinical Teaching Unit as a preceptor (as appropriate) for learners
General Medicine consultation via referrals from all practitioners within SH-SS (physicians, nurse practitioners, etc.)
Hospital& Special Care Unit consults within SH-SS
Possible after-hours Internal Medicine consultations when feasible
Shared care within the clinic and hospital settings as requested by physicians
Admission and hospital care as required for complex internal medicine patient
Timely documentation and discharge summaries for patient files as outlined by Regional policy
Participating in local and regional education as it pertains to your area of expertise
Participating in regional guidelines and/or policies as it pertains to your area of expertise
Participating in regional committees as they pertain to your area of expertise (ex. Standards, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, etc)
Reading EKGs and performing stress tests (must apply and receive hospital privileges congruent with the specialty of general internal medicine)

Required

Must be eligible for full registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba
Must be a member in good standing with the Canadian Medical Protective Association

Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums
Good work and attendance record
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00

Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) candidates preferred
Qualified PRA candidates are encouraged to apply
