Vice President, Health Care Improvement

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a Vice President of Health Care Improvement to join their Science & Health Care Team. This role will lead initiatives focused on improving care for people living with diabetes and oversee programs designed to advance evidence-based standards in diabetes care.

Responsibilities

Lead high-quality programs that advance evidence-based standards in diabetes care and provide clinical leadership support to the Professional Practice committee for development of ADA’s clinical practice guidelines, including the annual Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes, consensus statements, and international reports
Provide clinical expertise for professional education programs, conferences, writing groups, expert panels, and technical reviews
Act as a consultative medical and scientific expert to internal divisions (e.g., Government Affairs, Marketing and Communications, Development, Quality) and external organizations
Oversee a portfolio of initiatives to accelerate adoption of innovative solutions that improve diabetes care, with emphasis on cardiometabolic health
Drive strategy for health care improvement in diabetes and implement scalable programs addressing patient needs
Oversee development of scientific proposals and delivery of clinical content in collaboration with ADA’s development team
Manage the Outcomes & Evaluation team, guiding approaches to metrics, measurement, and publication of results
Provide scientific and strategic input on evaluation frameworks to align with ADA goals and best practices
Review outcome reports to identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and impact optimization
Ensure evaluation findings are disseminated through internal briefings, reports, and scholarly publications
Contribute to educational initiatives and publications targeting providers across the care spectrum
Collaborate with editorial boards of ADA journals and review consumer and professional publications for accuracy and adherence to ADA standards
Communicate complex medical content clearly to diverse audiences, both in-person and virtually
Represent ADA’s scientific and medical positions to advisory groups, national committees, and health care organizations
Maintain consistent messaging of ADA’s mission from a clinical perspective
Lead high-quality programs, manage fiscal operations, and recommend process improvements
Proactively identify content needs and ensure alignment with organizational priorities

Required

A doctorate degree (or equivalent) in a health-related specialty required; other advanced degrees considered with demonstrated clinical diabetes expertise
Minimum of 7+ years in diabetes care and management and currently maintains a clinical practice
Proven ability to lead in complex healthcare or association environments, with experience in national or international academic or professional societies
Demonstrated publication record in diabetes clinical research and ability to translate findings into practical applications that advance patient care
Demonstrated success in implementing innovative practices, technologies, and partnerships, including leveraging AI tools and digital health platforms
Skilled in recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing teams; proficient in fiscal and budget management
Ability to build relationships with key opinion leaders, stakeholders, and the broader medical community
Experience strengthening philanthropic support and translating mission into compelling narratives
Comfortable managing staff in a virtual team environment

Preferred

Experience in academic teaching hospitals or research settings is strongly preferred
Expertise in cardiometabolic health and global experience is highly desirable
