Responsibilities

The DADPCS/DNE works collaboratively with the Clinical Service Chiefs, Administrative Service Chiefs, Nurse Managers and Nursing Leadership to achieve Healthcare System goals
The major responsibility of the DADPCS/DNE is to ensure the development of a highly educated, innovative and motivated nursing staff that delivers high quality competent nursing care over all sites of care
Practice of an executive nature, comprised of complex, leadership and administrative components, associated with critical health care issues and activities that influence the organizational mission, health care, and policy (VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6)
The DADPCS/DNE is accountable for providing primary assistance to the ADPCS/NE, champions a High Reliability Organization with a culture of safety founded on a systems approach to developing health care solutions that is non-punitive and based on prevention, with collective mindfulness
Collaborate with DADPCS/DNE to monitor compliance and timeliness for action items, risk-based patient safety event assessments, reporting, determine appropriateness of action plan to mitigate risk and ensure safety
Monitor and track RCA/Regulatory/JPSR/PATS-R events to ensure timeliness and adequate follow-up
Lead DAPDCS/DNE for Nurse Leadership Council ensuring timely and quality report compliance including coach/mentor Chief Nurse sponsors
Active presence in executive leadership meetings
Tracks budget and operational metrics in collaboration with DAPDCS/DNE and Service Chiefs
The DADPCS/DNE provides organizational leadership skills to develop and mentor a highly effective diverse workforce, to improve overall health care system operations to achieve performance measures and to support strategic planning initiatives

Required

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) and 5 years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse IV and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse V; OR Master's degree in a related field with a BSN and 5 years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse IV and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse V; OR a Doctoral degree in Nursing and 4 years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse IV and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse V; OR a Doctoral degree in a related field with a BSN and 4 years of professional nursing experience, one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse IV and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse V
Dimension Requirements: Leadership, Business Acumen, Inspiring an Industry-Leading Lifestyle, Communication and Relationship Management, Professional and Social Responsibility

Preferred

Certification as a Nurse Executive (NE-BC, NEA-BC, or CENP)
Progressive responsibility leading toward executive level leadership
Evidence of progressing leadership role over multiple diverse areas/units
Experience in providing leadership for program oversight, to include program development, implementation and logistics, collaboration and education
Experience in effective communication in all areas of practice. Consistently, clearly and positively communicates VHA mission, vision, and goals
Experience in multiple aspects of Human Resources, such as employee and labor relations, workforce planning, and performance management
Experience in data and metrics in relation to nursing and healthcare outcome indicators
Experience with healthcare accreditors and surveys, i.e. CARF, TJC, LTCI
Must demonstrate the ability to follow-up and resolve patient and employee concerns swiftly and fully
The ability to lead a team through an action plan and process improvement
