Grounds and Facilities Crew Chief

Responsibilities
Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
Performs a variety of cleaning and grounds maintenance activities in assigned area of responsibility, which may include repairing building systems and/or structures; painting interior and exterior surfaces; setting up facilities for events; and/or performing related events
Inspects systems, equipment, and/or structures and ensures safety requirements are met
Secures, locks, and opens buildings, as necessary
Gathers information and quotes needed for budget; forecasts staffing, equipment, and material expenses for budget planning; monitors and controls expenditures and adjusts budget items as needed
Responds to questions, concerns, and/or requests for service from employees, vendors, outside organizations, the public, and/or other interested parties related to the assigned area of responsibility
Prepares and monitors logs and operational records
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Three (3) years of related experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties
Possession of a valid drivers license. (Some positions may require a Commercial Driver's License.)
Knowledge of supervisory principles
Knowledge of grounds and facilities maintenance principles and practices
Knowledge of applicable system and structure repair techniques
Knowledge of applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in ground maintenance activities
Knowledge of recordkeeping principles
Knowledge of computers and related software applications
Knowledge of safe work practices
Skill in monitoring and evaluating employees
Skill in prioritizing and assigning work
Skill in maintaining grounds and facilities
Skill in operating and maintaining applicable ground maintenance equipment and tools
Skill in inspecting facilities, equipment, and other structures
Skill in identifying and repairing/replacing unsafe equipment
Skill in creating and maintaining records
Skill in using a computer and related software applications
Skill in communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisors, the public, etc
Physical ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Physical ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces
Physical ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like
Physical ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
Physical ability to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin
Physical ability to pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers
Physical ability to apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
Physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
Physical ability to bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees
Physical ability to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position-to-position
Mental acuity to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes
Physical ability to use upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion
Physical ability to use upper extremities to press against something steady to thrust forward, downward
