Responsibilities

Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc
Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds
Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions; issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc
Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies needed
Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor
Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors
Review and verify the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems as a result of regulatory and program requirements
Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc
Serve as a technical authority for the resolution of especially difficult or sensitive problems associated with the collection, remittance, and deposit of fee revenue and donations

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
To qualify for this position at the GS-03 level, you must possess one of the following: A. Six months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates my ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk. -OR- B. One year of education above high school (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that demonstrates my ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Recreation Fee Clerk. -OR- B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-05. Examples of specialized experience include: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. -OR- B. Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined
To qualify for this position at the GS-06 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-06. Examples of specialized experience include: performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; and resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process. -OR- B. Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level study (18 semester hours or equivalent) that directly applies to the work of the position in a field such as accounting, business, or finance. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. -OR- C. Possession of an equivalent combination of education and experience
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 level, you must possess one of the following: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-07. Examples of specialized experience include: performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of sale system; performing recurring or standardized accounting transactions such as remittances and bank deposits in automated financial systems; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; and resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process. -OR- B. Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level study (18 semester hours or equivalent) that directly applies to the work of the position in a field such as accounting, business, or finance. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined
