Communication Systems Engineer
Battelle is a research and development organization that supports government customers through technical expertise in telemetry and communications. The Communication Systems Engineer will contribute to the evaluation and operationalization of advanced systems, ensuring they meet safety and security requirements while analyzing vulnerabilities and developing robust architectures.

Responsibilities
Support instrumentation and data collection during flight test activities to validate system performance and technical maturity
Configure, operate, and troubleshoot telemetry and communications systems for real-time data transmission and monitoring during tests
Develop and refine requirements test matrices to ensure telemetry and comms objectives are mapped to system requirements
Assist in the development and execution of test plans and procedures, including security and safety requirements for communications equipment
Analyze post-test telemetry data to assess system readiness, identify anomalies, and support maturity assessments
Document test results and provide technical input for final maturity assessment summaries and reports
Evaluate the security and reliability of telemetry and communications hardware/software as part of component-level vulnerability assessments
Identify potential supply chain risks and vulnerabilities related to telemetry and comms subsystems
Support the integration of telemetry and comms requirements into the Systems Modeling Language (SysML)-based MBSE backbone for requirements traceability and verification
Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital twin libraries for analyzed systems, focusing on telemetry and comms architecture
Assist in configuration management and documentation to ensure telemetry and comms components are versioned, audit-ready, and compliant with security standards
Provide recommendations for mitigation and alternative sourcing for telemetry and comms components identified as high-risk
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong background in modeling and simulation of complex systems
Experience in vulnerability analysis and system decomposition
Proven ability to lead technical discussions and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience developing and maintaining requirements baselines throughout the product lifecycle
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and teamwork skills
Preferred
Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies
Familiarity with SysML diagramming tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rhapsody)
Experience with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and/or Unified Architectural Framework (UAF)
Experience with embedded systems, microelectronics, FPGA, or circuit card design
Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object-oriented languages
Experience supporting DoD programs
Active Top-Secret Clearance
