Responsibilities

Supervises and coordinates the functions of assigned sections to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity
Assures integrity of patient specimens, quality control, equipment performance and maintenance
Monitors section functions; prepares related reports and charts
Designs training programs for assigned sections. Conducts training in phlebotomy and specimen processing functions
Directly supervises laboratory staff in assigned sections
Consults regularly with the assistant director and/or manager of the day as appropriate
Communicates effectively with testing personnel as required
Submits recommendations for capital budget and staffing levels to the assistant director
Prepares procedures for assigned sections. Maintains section procedure manuals
Maintains adequate supplies for assigned sections. Monitors inventory levels
Assists in the orientation of new employees in the department
Collects/processes specimens as necessary using established techniques for the various age groups assigned
Monitors safety and infection control aspects for assigned sections
Monitors morgue supplies and cleanliness. Informs appropriate MMC department of supply and cleaning needs. Reports problems to the pathologist on call
Performs departmental maintenance and other duties as assigned
Remains mentally alert and maintains concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods, at times under stress. Maintains adaptability, flexibility, initiative, persistence, and efficiency of time management and action
Does not pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others. Provides safe, efficient, competent care to population assigned. Meets MMC Environment of Care Standards
Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested

Required

A high school diploma or its equivalent is required with course work to include English, typing, filing and general office etiquette
A minimum of five (5) years of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience is required
