Explosives Operator

Responsibilities

Disassemble weapons such as rifles, carbines, mortars, pistols, revolvers, or machine gun for incidental work
Remove cartridges from rockets to re-install new components
Renovate artillery items into receptacles for demolition
Utilize powered wire brushes for maintenance of ammunition items
Remove corrosion of small arm ammunition by automatic machine
Perform maintenance for removal of items that have become obsolete, deteriorated, damaged, or contaminated according to policies

Required

Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Operator without more than normal supervision
Must possess the ability to perform common complex ammunition and explosive operation and maintenance
Operate common refusing or fusing of any explosives, cartridges, rockets, mortars, grenades and other types of high explosive ammunition to prevent accidents or explosions
Work involves lifting, carrying, and handling moderately heavy objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds for approximately 20%-50% of job cycle
Lifting heavier items weighing in excess of 50 pounds for a small portion of the time, normally less than 2%
Must frequently stand for extended periods, and work with a rhythmic set pace, reaching, bending, and manipulating parts
Careful attention is required in eye-hand coordinating, and in setting and attaching detonating and/or initiating devices to explosives
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program
Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program
This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968
Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position
Criminal history background check required
Position requires a Secret Security Clearance
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter
