Responsibilities

Evaluates and/or oversees the evaluation of inmates to assess sexual dangerousness, general dangerousness, competency to stand trial and/or the offender’s responsibility for his behavior the time of the offense, diminished capacity, presentencing and need for treatment evaluations
Serves as a professional resource, provides forensic consultation and advice to the Commitment & Treatment Program (CTP) staff, administration and other disciplines
Assists in training institution staff on how to recognize and deal with emotional, behavioral, and/or personality disorders
Assists with the planning, development, and implementation of applied research
Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating the functions of the CTP and coordinates/reviews all forensic work performed within the unit
Responsible for supporting and conforming to the ethical standards set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA) and by federal regulations; and adhering to the standards for psychological practice as it pertains to forensic evaluation and other related work
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis

Required

Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required
Applicants may have received this degree in either clinical or counseling psychology
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level
Experience which demonstrates the ability to administer, score and interpret a wide variety of psycho-diagnostic assessment instruments (i.e., personality assessments, intellectual tests and aptitude and achievement measures)
Experience in generating psychological reports, including a diagnostic assessment based upon objective and subjective clinical information
Experience in assisting with the formulation of appropriate treatment interventions, identifying corresponding programs and recommending accommodations or program transfers when appropriate
Experience in providing a full range of professional psychological services to inmates including individual and group psychotherapy interventions
Experience evaluating inmates to assess sexual dangerousness, general dangerousness, competency to stand trial and/or the offender's responsibility for their behavior at the time of the offense, and preparing reports which detail the findings of the opinion rendered
Experience advising the Sex Offender Certification Review Branch (SOCRB), via written mental health evaluations, about specific inmates being considered for certification as sexually dangerous persons
Experience providing written annual updates to the courts and attorneys regarding individuals committed as sexually dangerous persons
Experience presenting findings in court as an expert witness and familiarity with courtroom procedures and the issues addressed in chapter 313 of the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984
Applicants must be a licensed psychologist or licensed psychiatrist assigned to complete an evaluation for the Federal Court System
