The Atlantic Adult Day Center Program Intern will provide direct service to clients, assisting with activities of daily living and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for older adults.

Responsibilities

Provide direct service to our clients including support for: activities of daily living, program activities, and other tasks assigned by the ADC Manager

Treat clients with respect, kindness, and patience; helping to maintain clients’ dignity

Work with team to always ensure safety of members

Interact with clients in a professional and positive manner

Assist clients who are unsteady with walking

Assist with activities and projects at the request of the Activities Coordinator

Assist during lunchtime to ensure calm, orderly flow of mealtime experience for clients

Perform other duties as assigned by ADC manager

Required

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time accredited public or private College/University

Ideal candidate is actively pursuing a degree in nursing, social work, or medical studies

Be in good academic standing

Work 37.5 hours per week Monday through Friday (9am-5pm)

Commit to a minimum of 375 hours for the duration of the internship

Ability to work in a team setting

Effective interpersonal communication skills

Ability to maintain client/family confidentiality

Ability to handle crises in a calm and constructive manner

Ability to assist clients with personal care and toileting when necessary

Preferred

Previous nursing assistant or home health aide experience favored – not required
