ELECTRICAL ENGINEER IV-SUBSTATION DESIGN
City Light & Power, Inc. is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer IV-Substation Design. The role involves designing sub-transmission systems and substations, developing engineering calculations, and mentoring junior engineers within the engineering team.

Responsibilities
Design sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems
Develop concept design alternatives, engineering calculations, analysis, and engineering estimates for small-scale system improvement projects for substations and distribution systems
Develop/review complex electrical system models and validate various system study findings/recommendations
Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus
Create system model for large-scale power system in ETAP (or similar software) and perform various power system analysis/studies
Develop bill of material and technical specifications for various electrical projects. Schedule and attend field walk-downs with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to understand and determine project requirements
Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation
Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems
Update and maintain GIS database for large-scale electrical distribution systems
Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects, develop concept design, and present the design to CLPE Management and the customer
Prepare cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects
Keep up to date with utility industry standards and codes. Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for our O&M, replacement/renewable and new installations
Analyze electrical fault events, power quality issues, system loading scenarios and assist crew to implement corrective actions
Maintain in-depth knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes for electrical distribution system
Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders
Assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle in tracking and understanding the basis of cost estimate
Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance and support to help them grow in their professional careers
Preparation of project construction schedules
Submission of request for information to clients
Act as primary point of contact for projects and facilitating design/review process
Coordinate meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables, and addressing outstanding open items as requested by clients
Qualification
Required
PE License required
Minimum of eight (8+) years of work experience in the electric utility industry
BS degree, Electrical Engineering, from accredited university with emphasis in power systems required
Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system required
Expert with power system analysis, distribution system modeling, and protective device coordination required
Experienced in blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services required
Ability to prepare and maintain construction project schedules in Microsoft Project
Experience with ETAP or similar software
Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills
You must be a U.S. citizen
Valid driver's license required
