Financial Capabilities Intern (UNPAID)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations, dedicated to restoring health, safety, and economic wellbeing to people affected by crises. The Financial Capabilities Intern will support the IRC in NY’s financial education program, providing financial coaching, conducting workshops, and engaging in outreach to enhance financial literacy among participants.

Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one financial coaching and counseling for clients
Conduct financial management intakes and surveys for all clients
Track client meetings and progress in spreadsheet and through case noting on ETO software
Facilitate monthly financial literacy/education workshops for clients
Develop database of financial resources for clients
Work in conjunction with the Economic Empowerment specialist to develop relationships with financial institutions and organizations providing financial services in NYC
Communicate effectively in person and by telephone
Collaborate with other IRC in NY programs as necessary
Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy

Required

The ideal candidate will have experience in providing coaching or counseling services, preferably in personal financial management
Experience working with immigrants or refugees in a social service setting
Must have good written and verbal English language skills
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Access and Word, E-mail)
Ability to pass a background check
Adhere to professional standards of confidentiality and boundary-setting
Must be willing to work varied hours

Preferred

Experience providing instruction to adults a plus
Ability to fluently speak at least one of the following languages (Farsi/Dari, Arabic, Spanish, French, Burmese, Mandarin, Russian, Urdu) preferred
