Responsibilities

Perform the duties of clinical laboratory testing commensurate with the specialty and subspecialty assigned

Recognize technical and process problems and ensure test systems are functioning properly and within expected parameters before reporting patient test results

Work independently to resolve technical problems within scope of authority

Make decisions to notify and seek advice of next level of management or designee when indicated

Staff hours, rotate temporary on-call and perform other duties as assigned to meet laboratory and hospital goals

Schedule is dependent on patient and laboratory need

Medical Technology degreeLaboratory testing experienceCertification by ASCPPediatric experienceAnalytical judgmentTechnical problem resolutionCompliance knowledge

Required

Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or an appropriate biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited program

Minimum of one (1) year experience performing laboratory testing in a clinical setting to include those tests classed as waived, moderate or high complexity

Candidate must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent nationally recognized certifying agency, or is registry eligible

Registry eligible candidates must pass the certifying exam within one and one-half years of graduation; failure to do so results in termination

Registry eligible candidates may perform waived or moderate complexity testing only

Preferred

Pediatric experience is preferred
