AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC LEADER
The U.S. Border Patrol, part of the Department of Homeland Security, is seeking an Automotive Mechanic Leader in Boulevard, CA. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of government-owned vehicles and equipment, while leading a team of mechanics and ensuring operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
Obtaining materials or information from supervisors to relay to subordinate employees
Resolving minor complaints or referring those of a more serious nature to higher authority
Recording itemization of parts, materials, and time expended on vehicles or other equipment serviced or repaired
Leading three or more employees in the sector automotive maintenance and repair program and providing on the job training for subordinate employees
Qualification
Required
You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
All pre-employment processes will be conducted in English
You may be required to pass a background investigation

Ability to lead or supervise
Experience performing duties related to leading employees in the sector automotive maintenance and repair program
Experience planning, scheduling, directing and supervising the work performed by Automotive and Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics
Experience assisting the Supervisor in planning work programs, determining priority assignments, scheduling, parts ordering and purchasing
Experience using various types of hand and power tools, testers and gauges
Experience evaluating future needs and repairs and keeping the supervisors advised concerning jobs in progress
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading)
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair
Knowledge of technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Ability to troubleshoot
Skill in use of measuring instruments
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/13/2025
You must possess the ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle
A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required
You will be required to perform work on a shift and rotational basis
You may be required to travel away from your normal duty station
Work requires wearing protective clothing and/or safety equipment
You will frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time and must also crawl under vehicles to make repairs while on hard, usually damp surfaces
