Radiological Control Technician

Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Radiological Control Technician Trainer will support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Project by developing and implementing training materials and ensuring compliance with WIPP/DOE standards.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate training using the systematic approach to training
Develop training materials such as Job-task lists, On-the-Job Training qualification cards, Qualification Standards, Classroom training materials and knowledge tests
Ensure compliance with WIPP/DOE standards, processes, and procedures
Develop procedures and training materials in a manner to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations
Develop procedures including drafting, editing, and revising and performing comment resolution
Perform equipment walk downs to verify field conditions
Work with functional managers, technical authorities, subject matter experts, and field workers to ensure procedures are written in an appropriate manner for the training, qualification, and experience of the workers
Ensure the level of detail prescribed in procedures is appropriately balanced with the training required for the position performing the work
Provide daily interface with technical authorities, functional managers, and subject matter experts
Other duties as assigned in response to a rapidly changing environment

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field with five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined
Experience teaching as a Radiation Control Technician
Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department
Ability to accomplish organization objectives by organizing and monitoring work processes
Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; training development software
Experience developing and implementing technical procedures for operations
Experience with the Job Hazard Analysis process
Instructor or training specialist qualification related to technical/functional operations
Knowledge of DOE Order 426.2, 'Personnel Selection, Qualification, and Training Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities.'
Excellent communication skills: keen appreciation for follow up, follow through, and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and without supervision
Experience working in and with industry; good working knowledge of the region's high demand industries especially as it relates to the workforce needs of employers
Knowledge of economic and workforce development practices, systems, and program design; knowledge of training systems
Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing, and making presentations to groups and individuals
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
