Sr Principal Systems Engineer - Infrastructure (Onsite)
Collins Aerospace is modernizing the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) capability as part of a program to enhance next-generation capabilities. The Senior Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing projects throughout the development lifecycle, providing technical guidance, and leading engineering teams in system design and integration.

Responsibilities
You will be responsible for projects spanning the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, trade study, system design, requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification
Leads System and Product Design, Requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control, integration and test, and aircraft-level system integration
Works with the definition of Software-Defined System architectures
Leads the software development experience (e.g., Python, Java, Go, etc.)
Deploys Linux-based network technologies and services (e.g., routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, PXE, TFTP, HTTP, NTP, PTP, etc.)
You will be responsible for providing technical guidance to multidisciplined teams, leading effective working sessions, cultivating and reinforcing group values, and identifying, analyzing and correcting technical problems
You will apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle
You will lead engineering teams to understand, analyze, and develop the models, requirements, and designs using enterprise standard tools, processes, and industry best practices
You will ensure the development and management of technical risks and develop and execute mitigation plans
You will establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers
You will coordinate across strategic business units for alignment of portfolio roadmaps
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Previous professional experience in leading System and Product Design, Requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control, integration and test, and aircraft-level system integration
Experience in the definition of Software-Defined System architectures
Software development experience (e.g., Python, Java, Go, etc.)
Hands-on experience deploying Linux-based network technologies and services (e.g., routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, PXE, TFTP, HTTP, NTP, PTP, etc.)
Preferred
Hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing virtual machines and hyper-converged infrastructure on bare metal
Hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing application containers (e.g., Docker)
Hands-on experience deploying, administering, and operating Kubernetes clusters
Hands-on experience developing Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Helm, etc.)
Experience with open system architecture development, including systems, software, and hardware development throughout all phases of a program lifecycle
Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience
Executing product and system-level tests to include experience with automation test tools or scripting
Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO178B/C, or ARP4754
Experience with various communication and networking protocols: MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols, and TCP/IP network applications
Experience working in an Agile development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with SW, Integration and Verification teams
Experience with implementation of the Zero Trust security framework
Experience with the Cross-Domain Solution (CDS) information assurance system
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect
Experience deploying and managing distributed storage solutions (e.g., Longhorn, Ceph, etc.)
Experience deploying and managing service meshes (e.g., Istio, Consul, etc.)
Experience with UEFI systems (e.g. secure boot, signing-keys, PXE, etc.)
