Senior Project Manager, Highway

Responsibilities
Manage and direct project design teams on projects for state transportation clients to include Connecticut and Rhode Island
Serve as client representative regarding current/upcoming work and business development
Take a lead role (or ‘responsible for’) for technical aspects of marketing and proposal preparation
Prepare and approve scope of work and costing documents for proposals
Coordinate with other senior engineering staff, lead junior team members, project stakeholders and other disciplines to manage an organized approach to project execution
Review and approve professional civil engineering work including roadway and highway design and site grading, and stormwater management facilities
Oversee the preparation of, review and approve permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in design
Manage preparation of construction drawings, cost estimates, and specifications to implement designs
Prepare, review and approve client-ready reports and drawings
Evaluate design options and understand costs/benefits of solutions
Train and mentor junior staff. Responsible for staff management, including training and mentoring junior staff
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
Professional Engineer registration, and the ability to obtain Connecticut and/or Rhode Island PE registration within one year
10+ years of professional highway design engineering experience, including 3+ years' experience managing transportation projects, preferably with CTDOT and/or RIDOT. MASSDOT experience, a plus
Must be willing to travel to project sites and business meetings (with potential for overnight stays), as required, estimated to be 5%
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to review work using OpenRoads, InRoads, AutoCAD
Proficiency reviewing and approving technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles
Experience successfully leading a design team, including providing constructive feedback and mentorship skills
Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients and employees at all levels of the organization
Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment
Coordinate with senior management, clients, regulators, and other WSP staff members inside and outside of reporting team
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs
Preferred
Experience with CTDOT and/or RIDOT policies and procedures
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
