Responsibilities

Review SQL functions, queries, and ETL pipelines for performance and best practices
Develop and enforce SQL coding standards and query tuning guidelines for developers using Greenplum/PostgreSQL
Partner with DBAs to monitor database health, throughput, and segment usage; identify and remediate performance bottlenecks
Provide mentoring and training on Greenplum query execution plans, partitioning, and workload management
Assess database schemas and DDL for gaps and improvements
Analyze and optimize long-running queries and workloads
Lead database capacity planning and scalability strategy
Establish and maintain version control best practices (Git branching, code review workflow, CI/CD for SQL)
Define conventions for SQL function documentation, deployment, and testing in shared repositories
Lead code review and knowledge-sharing sessions with development teams
Implement reproducible deployment and rollback processes for database objects
Evaluate logical and physical data models for performance, normalization/denormalization strategy, partitions, distribution keys, and storage efficiency
Define guidelines for schema design, distribution, and partitioning strategies
Collaborate with data governance teams to ensure model consistency and naming standards
Participate in production support for SQL job failures; help with root-cause analysis and guide optimization
Develop monitoring metrics and dashboards for long-running or error-prone jobs
Create and maintain documentation and runbooks for database performance management
Lead (POC) and planning for migration from Greenplum to AWS (Snowflake), including performance benchmarking
Evaluate workload translation, data partitioning, and performance scaling strategies in target platforms
Provide architectural input on hybrid data environments and ETL orchestration

Required

8+ years of experience in data engineering or database development (PostgreSQL / Greenplum or similar MPP systems)
Expert SQL skills with proven experience in performance tuning of DW, MPP optimization, and execution plan analysis, and performance diagnostics
Strong hands-on experience with DW, like Greenplum in addition to PostgreSQL in enterprise-scale, multi-tenant environments
Experience/Exposure to Snowflake (including concurrency and parallelization challenges)
Deep understanding of data warehouse architecture, design patterns, and optimization techniques
Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and AWS native integrations (Informatica, Glue, Lambda, Kafka, S3)
Python for automation, scripting, and ETL/ELT support, Working knowledge of Linux environment
Exposure to data governance, security, and compliance practices
Experience using Git for SQL loads with version control and peer-review workflows
Strong problem-solving skills for complex ETL and query performance issues
Knowledge of database monitoring, governance, and compliance best practices
Excellent communication and ability to guide and mentor engineers
Design and architecture experience supporting both batched and streaming workloads for Big Data Pipelines
At least 3 years of experience in a professional services company, consulting firm, or agency
Have a solid understanding of delivery methodology and lead teams in implementing the solution according to the designed architecture
Experience in project and solution estimation and team structure definition
Fluent and current on architecture trends with an eye on market/technical conditions and future direction
Experience in defining new architectures and the ability to drive an independent project from an architectural standpoint
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support data-informed task execution
A solid understanding of AI capabilities and limitations, including ethical considerations, is expected
Demonstrated success in performing work and managing complex and/or large consulting projects
Ability to elicit requirements and communicate clearly with non-technical individuals, development teams, and other ancillary project members
Track record of leadership roles delivering solutions within defined timeframes
Experience working with a globally distributed team and managing off-shore teams
Desire to mentor younger team members and develop their skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field

Preferred

Experience leading data modernization or cloud migration to DW like AWS, Snowflake, or Redshift
Familiarity with Informatica, Glue, modern ETL tools and Batch orchestration
Scripting and programming skills (bash, Python, Java) for automation
Familiarity with Data modeling and implementation
