Responsibilities
Providing instruction at the Ingham County Youth Center, an alternative educational setting to juvenile youth that are temporarily detained
Deliver instruction in a correctional facility setting to help increase academic achievement
Implement and deliver instruction in Math and Science
Assist in administering assessment procedures and instruments, both standardized and authentic, to evaluate students’ academic achievement
Maintain accurate records and documentation of students for evaluation purposes and the monitoring of progress
Work collaboratively with ICYC staff, LSD Administrators, and community agencies
Facilitate and encourage a learning environment that fosters successful social and academic experiences related to workforce skills and acculturation processes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree
Teacher Cert (Math or Science focus)
Previous experience working within an alternative setting
Administering instruction to youth within the justice system
Demonstrated ability to work with students from a variety of culture and linguistic backgrounds, age, and language/academic proficiency levels
Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, students, and staff as well as under appropriate supervision
Demonstrated ability to maintain standards of professional conduct and work ethics including attendance, punctuality and performance
Preferred
Master's Degree
Successful teaching experience at correctional facilities is preferred
Ability to support and promote academic instruction and link with Career and Readiness Standards
Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment with a high degree of flexibility is desired
Demonstrated ability to actively seek opportunities to grow professionally is desired
