Port & Harbor Maintenance, Operations, & Security Tech
The City of Valdez Ports & Harbors Department is hiring summer Port and Harbor Maintenance, Operations, & Security Technicians. This position is responsible for the security, maintenance, repair and safe usage of all harbor facilities, as well as providing general grounds maintenance and performing security duties of various ports and harbors facilities.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the security, maintenance, repair and safe usage of all harbor facilities
Provides general grounds maintenance and performs general security duties of Airport, Valdez Container Terminal, and Kelsey Dock, Plaza & Uplands and all other Ports and Harbors facilities and grounds
Requires line handling skills, thorough knowledge of boat moorage procedures and ability to accommodate many vessels properly
Requires the ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations and to contact appropriate persons as needed
Requires skills needed to conduct routine maintenance, repair, cleaning and construction
Requires some clerical experience and knowledge of office functions
Requires attention to detail necessary for accurate and complete records
Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties, as situations require a strong sense of teamwork and ability to work cooperatively with others
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects and walk and stand for long periods of time; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
Ensure proper safety procedures are being followed, to protect staff, customers and equipment
Be aware of and attentive to customers’ needs, both on the water and in the upland facilities
Performs security duties for regulated vessels at the VCT and Kelsey Dock
Screens Vehicles, and enforces Department of Homeland Security regulations
Works cooperatively with other departments, external agencies and the public
Experience in marine infrastructure repairs and their construction
Has knowledge of the Port Facility Security Plan, Knowledge of the US Coast Guard and Homeland Security Regulations for Port Facilities and the ability to read and understand technical documents
Responsible for snow removal around all Ports & Harbors facilities
Qualification
Required
Must have High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 18 years old
Valid Drivers License. Will be required to undergo driving history review to determine eligibility to drive city owned vehicles and equipment

Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
Frequent walking and standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling or crawling
