Responsibilities

Mechanically prepare welding materials using metal shears and thermal cutting processes to code specifications for American Welding Society (AWS) certifications
Operate forklift to unload materials from trucks
Troubleshoot all errors and malfunctions. Coordinate and/or perform equipment service, repair, or replacement as needed
Fabricate fixtures and jigs using precision and accuracy
Ensure that welding materials and personal protective equipment are stocked and available to accommodate lab and class schedules. Set up the lab and prep areas for scheduled classes. Ensure students have the materials and equipment needed for class and lab use
Take inventory of welding materials and equipment within the lab and classrooms. Order and restock welding supplies and equipment to ensure students have materials needed for class and lab use. Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors and monitor vendor performance
Research invoice and contractual issues and resolve discrepancies
Enforce and promote safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of safety equipment
Provide a safe, efficient, and clean welding work area for the students. Ensure materials are organized and stored correctly and that equipment and work areas are cleaned according to established protocols. Organize the lab and classrooms and their contents in between courses
Provide assistance that supports the welding instructional needs and meets the requirements of varying class schedules. Fulfill ad hoc and last-minute requests from faculty and staff as needed. Communicate with instructors regarding welding procedures, supplies, and equipment. Assist instructors with supervision on an as-needed basis
Provide welding guidance and direction to students. Assist students with questions and concerns related to welding activities. Monitor conditions and activities in welding areas and enforce policies, procedures, and standards
Conduct safety inspections and maintain departmental compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and JCCC policies
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity

Required

Familiarity with welding and fabricating equipment
Understanding of and ability to follow safety requirements
Able to perform basic maintenance, shop upkeep and metal preparation under minimal supervision
Able to organize tasks and materials to meet needs of MFAB faculty and classes
