GENERAL SURGEON
USAJOBS is seeking a General Surgeon to join the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. The role includes participating in all aspects of a general surgery program, performing surgeries, and providing pre-op and post-op care for patients.

Responsibilities
Participates in all aspects of a general surgery program to include clinical, administrative, and academic components
Participates in and manages all aspects of general surgery practice consistent with her or his training and experience. This encompasses all areas of general surgery
Performs surgery and provides pre-op and post-op care as indicated for major and minor procedures, as well as consultation for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings
Participates in a shared rotation of night and weekend on-call coverage
Participates in various committees and quality improvement projects, as requested by the Chief of Surgery, Deputy Chief of Surgery, and/or medical center leadership
Assist in continued development, implementation, and expansion of programs within the Surgery Service line
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Must be proficient in written and spoken English

Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred
Candidate must be either board certified or board eligible
