Responsibilities
Serve as the primary care physician for adult patients who have both acute and chronic illnesses and conditions covering internal medicine
Manage complicated medical problems such congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, arthritic conditions, etc
Examine patients, take histories, perform physical examinations, order laboratory tests, prescribe treatment and refer, as appropriate, to specialty/subspecialty care
Complete required records (both paper and electronic) pertaining to all medical services provided in accordance with specified procedures and regulations
Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and quality assurance activities as assigned
Provide technical oversight of clinical staff (e.g. nurses, social workers, therapists, and various technicians)
Supervisory positions will direct, oversee and assign work of military, civilian and contract workforce
Supervisory positions will participate on clinical staff boards and committees
Supervisory positions will complete performance appraisals for military, civilian, and contractor staff as directed and take disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands as needed
Supervisory positions will Interview candidates for subordinate positions and recommend candidates and employees for hiring, promotion, or reassignments
Qualification
Required
Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada
Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training
Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Internal Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years for GP-14 or 5 years for GP-15
Ability to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges
