Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Informatics Program Manager)
The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Informatics Program Manager responsible for managing pharmacy software packages and interfaces with automated pharmacy equipment. Responsibilities
The Pharmacy Informatics Program Manager has primary responsibility for the management of automated data processing within Pharmacy Service and for coordination with Information Technology Operations Service (OPS) to procure the programs and technical assistance needed to support pharmaceutical services
Reviews new pharmacy computer programs and assists Chief, Pharmacy Service in evaluating their potential impact on information services and productivity. Assesses the software to determine if there will be any problems with use and resolves any problems prior to full implementation of the new software package. Provides comprehensive training to Pharmacy staff (in coordination with the Pharmacy Managers) on the use of the upgraded and/or new VA software
Maintains working knowledge of how the pharmacy is managed and its policies
Acts as a liaison for Pharmacy Service with OI&T OPS. Analyzes problem(s) and/or need(s) being encountered by Pharmacy Service and provides this information to OI&T OPS in a format to allow for timely resolution of the problem/issues. Also acts as a liaison for other staff members and PBMN ACO regarding computer programs/computer generated reports and computer errors. Represents Pharmacy Service on all VISTA committees/workgroups
Understands and builds SQL data queries for the pharmacy service as required or assigned. Devises efficient templates to extract information from VISTA, SQL, Corporate Data Warehouse for Pharmacy Service, and other Medical Center staff as deemed necessary
Acts as a liaison for Pharmacy Service with PBM/NDF/CAC's/Pharmacy Econ teams/other service ADPAC's for information sharing and coordinating interrelated projects. Ensure pharmacy computer files are compliant with each service needs and requirements
CPRS - reviews and updates pharmacy menus and quick orders as needed. Assist with building pharmacy templates and consults incorporating orders and health factors for data capture
Cemer Transition- acts as the liaison for preparation for Cemer transition activities
Is primarily responsible for the maintenance of VISTA/CPRS pharmacy files. Assures the accuracy of the information in the drug file when new drugs are approved for formulary addition
Participates in data management of pharmacy-related computer programs such as the adverse drug reaction file. Serves as a liaison with other departments to address potential problems when information in other Services' software affect pharmacy processes
Serves as a lead person and coordinator for testing of new VA software enhancements and patches to existing software
Shares expertise by serving as an instructor and SME for VA-wide educational sessions such as PBM Clinical Showcases and Clinical Informatics Meetings
Gathers information about upcoming upgrades and mandated program installations by participating in national conference calls and other meetings. Ensures that all programs are installed within expected timelines and in full compliance with technical requirements and VA policies
Routinely monitors the entire Pharmacy Service for VISTA computer errors and hardware malfunctions. Takes the lead to resolve problems, including interface problems with CMOP. Reports software design problems to the appropriate software developers
Plays an integral role in patient safety by ensuring the drug file and other software are properly configured to reduce prescribing errors. If problems are identified, helps research software-based solutions
Maintains a working relationship with Consolidated Mail Out Program (CMOP) includes:
Managing technological communication and VANCHCS-wide coordination with the CMOP. Responsible for identifying computer or CMOP transmission problems and assuring corrective actions are initiated in a timely manner
Ensures all drugs are linked accurately to CMOP for dispensing

Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d)
Experience: In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
Preferred
Minimum 5 years Preferred experience and at least experiences within the field
