Responsibilities

Conduct surveys, independently or in conjunction with an industrial hygienist, to identify and evaluate potential health hazards

Prepare written reports of health hazard assessments under the guidance of the chief

Perform respirator fit testing per appropriate standards and guidelines

Maintain records associated with maintenance and calibration of equipment

Enter data collected from surveys of air samples into a reporting system database

Coordinate, schedule, and conduct regular inspections of all work areas to ensure that workers are wearing the required personal protective devices and that work practices designed to minimize or eliminate hazards are being followed

Serve as a point of contact for external organizations providing independent comprehensive industrial hygienist services

Maintain accountability of assigned equipment

Required

One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports

One year of progressively higher level graduate education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%

One year of specialized experience which includes providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects; collecting exposure data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; and monitoring exposure data to assess environmental conditions

One and a half years of progressively higher level graduate education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management

One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections and preparing reports using automated systems; evaluating potential health hazards to recommend mitigating courses of action; and training employees in safety or occupational health subjects

Two years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management

Must possess and maintain a valid US State issued driver's license to carry out position related duties

Required to lift up to 70 lbs

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation

Pre-employment physical may be required and annually thereafter

This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing

Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician

This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 10% of the time to various locations. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships, and vehicles

This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations
