AIRCRAFT LAUNCHING AND ARRESTING DEVICES MECHANIC

Responsibilities
You will perform inspections and maintenance on shipboard and shore-based catapult, arresting gear and visual landing aids
You will disassemble, repair, inspect, adjust, align, and installs water brake cylinders, covers, launch and exhaust valves, operates cylinder gap test equipment, assists in dead-load testing of catapults and retract engine as relating to catapults
You will disassemble, repair, adjusts, aligns, install sheave nests, crossheads, accumulators CRO valves/drive sys, anchor/sheave dampers, fairlead sys, wire supt. assemblies, barricade sys, retractable sheave assemblies in aircraft arresting sys
You will installs service changes, repairs and aligns pumps, performs hydrostatic tests on valves, hydraulic cylinders, heat exchangers and pneumatic components
You will perform test operations on machinery and alters equipment to provide access or permit observation during tests or experiments
You will utilize various portable machine tools and grinders; uses precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, dial indicators, depth gauges, height gauges, and various types of micrometers laser for catapult alignment and Theodolite
You will perform and assists with various jobs on engines, lathes, milling machines, drill press, boring mills and other machinery associated with inside machine shop work and equipment
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check

In order to meet the demands of the VRT, incumbent will be required to operate Material Handling Equipment
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport
This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
