ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
The U.S. Border Patrol, part of the Department of Homeland Security, is seeking an Engineering Equipment Operator. The role involves operating heavy engineering equipment for the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads and grounds, supporting the agency's mission objectives.

Responsibilities
Operating heavy engineering equipment to move earth on mountains and steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forests, and other surfaces with similar rough features
Performing heavy duty laboring tasks in connection with construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, grounds, surfaced areas, and road maintenance
Using hand and motor-powered tools and equipment such as shovels, rakes, axes, plate tampers, weed eaters, chain saws, lawn mowers, etc
Operating heavy equipment such as caterpillar tractors, drag tractors, road graders, and trenching machines
Qualification
Required
You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service
Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
All pre-employment processes will be conducted in English
You may be required to pass a background investigation
CBP follows the DHS Drug-Free Workplace Plan for drug testing procedures
To minimally qualify for the WG-10 grade level you must meet the Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
Experience performing the following duties: Operation of Motor Vehicles, Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order), Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation), Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle), Reliability and Dependability as an Engineering Equipment Operator
Knowledge of a variety of soil composition and conformation as well as knowledge of purpose and limitations of a large variety of attachments
Ability to sustain heavy physical effort required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operation the equipment and attachments
Ability to adjust large pieces of equipment, including under adverse operating conditions
Skill with hand, foot, and eye coordination in conjunction with good depth perception and a high degree of concentration to perform necessary operations

Incumbent is required to have a Class 1 Commercial Driver's License
All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment
