FIREFIGHTER (HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN/BASIC LIFE SUPPO
The Department of the Air Force is seeking a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in airfield and structural firefighting, crash-rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) response. The role involves operating firefighting vehicles, responding to hazardous materials incidents, and providing Basic Life Support.

Responsibilities
Performs hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis
Performs Basic Life Support. Initiates established medical protocols in providing basic life support
Drives and operates firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles
Performs crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great
Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment

A security clearance may be required
The position requires a pre-employment physical examination
Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program
Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management
The employee is required to work a 72 hour week on a 24 hour on/24 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program
The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required
Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth
Incumbent will be required to obtain licensing on current and any newly assigned mission directed vehicles or equipment
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems
Certification requirements for this position are: Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS)
Incumbent will be required to obtain Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) certification within one year of initial hire. Required to maintain current Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) certification
