Responsibilities

Technical ownership and execution of tasks, and may be viewed as a prime technical contact in providing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at Raytheon Technologies and at suppliers
Communicate with cross-disciplined, engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance with requirements
Serves in mentor role to junior engineers, providing technical guidance to others within mechanical discipline
Work autonomously with limited supervision, acting as the responsible engineer for major hardware subsystem. This often requires the ability to lead small teams of junior engineers, and collaborate across multiple functions and disciplines, such as supply chain, operations, quality, systems, analysis, and electrical
Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements
Collaborate with Raytheon factories and suppliers with new product integration and manufacturing process improvements
Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application
Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles
Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment

Required

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
Five years of professional experience in mechanical design or related industry
Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T)
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred

Leadership experience with small teams (4-6 people)
Supplier interaction and supplier management experience
Ability to collaborate in teams or independently
Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
Knowledge of Agile hardware development
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written
Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
Willingness to support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
Proficient in CREO (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
Active DoD issued security clearance
