RESEARCH ENGINEER II (2)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Research Engineer II to join their Engineering and Innovative Technology Development group. This early-career position involves assisting with the development, tracking, and verification testing of project requirements for space applications, while also ensuring adherence to technical specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities
Assists in development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems
Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects
Reports to EITD Systems Engineering Section Lead
Performs simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques
Assists more senior engineers in the preparation of requirements, plans, data analysis, and reports
Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function
Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work
May be required to work nights and weekends, as necessary, to support real-time flight operations
Travel to support testing and launch/return activities for approx. 7-day periods, 5-10 trips per year possible
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering related field
Four (4) years of related experience required
Ability to use various engineering and documentation/analysis software, MS Word, and Excel
Ability to problem-solve
Ability to work independently

Technical Communication skills (verbal & written)

Process improvement and quality skills
Ability to train others
Experience working within an industrial quality standard program
US Citizens only
Preferred
Systems Engineering experience with space-flight or aerospace applications
Systems Engineering experience for development and production of embedded / integrated systems
Experience with requirements development and associated verification and validation activities
Systems Engineering experience with ISO9001 and AS9100 Quality Programs
Operations support for NASA or commercial space activities
Experience using CAD software (e.g. SolidEdge or SolidWorks)
