Fiber Splicer

Precision Valley Communications, LLC is a telecommunications company seeking a Fiber Splicer to properly terminate, splice, and prep fiber optic cables. The role involves troubleshooting and maintaining fiber optic systems, as well as climbing utility poles and interpreting technical drawings.

Responsibilities

Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables
Climb utility poles or towers, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket or descends into underground vaults
Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections.as well as cuts and peels sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors
Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system
Read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc
Operate technical Equipment, including but not limited computer, OTDR and fusion slicing equipment, and functionality
Complete daily production reports of work performed
Respond to emergency call outs as needed, to include nights and weekends, but not limited holidays and extending day
Ability to work in cramped and or enclosed spaces for extended periods
Must have knowledge of fiber optic color codes. Interprets prints in underground and aerial environment
Work overnight and weekends as needed

Required

Minimum of 2 years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation
Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed including but not limited holidays and extending days
Ability to work in all weather conditions
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver's License; CDL License is a plus
Authorized to work in the United States
Able to lift and pull up to 80 lbs
Ability to be on-call
Must be self-motivated and able to work within time constraints
