ESS Program Aide

NEOGOV is part of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, which seeks an ESS Program Aide to assist in the Extended Student Services Program. Responsibilities

Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., read stories, listen to students read, provide writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, reinforce math lessons, and assist with curriculum-based homework assignments) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards
Assists the ESS Site Lead in responding to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., parents/guardians, students, district personnel) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction to other sources
Assists with the implementation of instructional programs, lesson plans, and enrichment activities for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts
Assists with the planning of learning and/or age appropriate activities (e.g., games, art, music, science, language, drama, playground, songs, safety awareness) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts
Attends department and/or in-service meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
Coordinates and/or oversees individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., snack time, group or individual games, playground activities, field trips, homework time) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning and recreational environment
Develops and implements craft activities
Promotes appropriate student behavior and good habits through implementation of a discipline plan for the purpose of improving the quality of students outcome and encouraging student development
Transfers children directly from/to parents or designee for the purpose of ensuring safety of students and meeting the District and program requirements
Distributes crafts and/or play materials for the purpose of providing required supplies
Serves nutritious snacks for the purpose of ensuring students receive proper nutritional items to meet federal and state guidelines
Maintains program equipment and work areas (e.g., toys, games, instructional tools) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing a safe learning and recreational environment
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

Required

Fifty (50) hours of experience working with children
High School education
Possess an Associate's Degree or higher (submit copy of degree with application)
Completed 48 units of college work (submit transcripts with application)
Successful completion of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Exam given by La Mesa – Spring Valley School District (submit copy of certificate with application)
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency
Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
Knowledge of basic recordkeeping methods and procedures
Knowledge of behavior management and motivation techniques
Knowledge of child development principles and practices
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
Knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures
Knowledge of operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications
Knowledge of safety practices
Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
Ability to communicate with diverse groups
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Ability to collate data and use job-related equipment
Ability to identify issues and create action plans
Ability to operate equipment using defined methods
Ability to problem solve with data frequently requiring independent interpretation of guidelines
Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events
Ability to understand multi-step written and oral instructions

Preferred

High School Diploma preferred
Some childcare experience, either through a paid position or volunteer experiences
Knowledge, interest, and ability to create a safe and engaging environment that provides children with age-appropriate and meaningful learning
Exhibits integrity, professionalism, caring, and competency as a positive role model
Commitment to building positive relationships with a culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically diverse community of students, staff, and parents
