The City of Hallandale Beach is seeking an Assistant Director of Public Works for Internal Operations to oversee functions, programs, and personnel within the Public Works Department. This role involves budget preparation, fiscal management, and providing administrative support while managing and developing employees.

Responsibilities

Plans, directs, manages and oversees functions, programs, and personnel associated with Public Works Internal Operations

Includes the budget preparation and fiscal management of various divisions in the department (e.g. Cemetery, Facilities Maintenance, Administrative Staff, Procurement and Contracts Administration)

Performs administrative and supervisory work in directing the overall internal operations of the assigned work area(s) in the Public Works Department

Supervises employees and develops work schedules for day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity

Performs duties with considerable independence and latitude in supervising and in being responsible for technical and administrative functions

Provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the department

Supervises subordinates through oral and written reports based upon personal observation

Managing, coaching, and developing employees

Develop policies and procedures as well as determining efficient and innovative ways to accomplish the organization’s business strategies

Required

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, economic, or related field supplemented by five (5) years of governmental budgeting and/or accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in Public Works management or supervision

Two (2) years of auditing, construction accounting, cost accounting, governmental budgeting and/or financial analysis experience

Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment
