The City of Sunnyvale is seeking motivated, reliable, energetic and skilled individuals interested in assisting with supervising youth groups in afterschool settings. The role includes planning and leading various recreational activities while ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants.

Responsibilities

Assist with supervising groups of students ages 4-10 in various after-school programs
Assist with planning, organizing and leading recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports, group games, and STEM based activities
Plan and collaborate with Sunnyvale School District personnel
Be flexible and open to change
Maintain a clean, safe environment
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and program planning dates
Issue, maintain, and store equipment and supplies
Interact with children, parents, and caregivers
Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants
Be prepared to be loud, excited, outgoing, and energetic as you lead kids in activities
Work alongside a team of individuals, collaborate on ideas, and assist each other
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills

Required

Minimum age is 16 years old for Counselor I
Minimum age is 17 years old for Counselor II
One (1) year or one (1) summer of experience for Counselor II
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision or in team with other staff
Ability to work alongside a group of individuals in a collaborative setting
Available to attend required trainings
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority

Preferred

Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi
One (1) year or (1) summer season of experience working with youth in a recreation or educational setting
Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade or higher
Certified CPR/AED/First Aid
