Computer Science - Associate Faculty Pool
Skagit Valley College is accepting applications for an Associate Faculty position in the Computer Science Department for the 2026/2027 academic year. This role involves teaching upper division Computer Science classes and creating an inclusive learning environment for students pursuing their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

Responsibilities
Provide effective instruction of upper division computer science for populations representing diverse ages, backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities
Create a positive learning environment for students using appropriate teaching methods to support and enhance student success
Effectively teach selected upper division computer science courses
Develop and incorporate contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods that respond to the diverse needs of the community and students
Provide class syllabi and course outcomes to students and appropriate departments
Assess, monitor, and document student performance
Fulfill part-time faculty responsibilities under the negotiated agreement and Skagit Valley College policies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a closely related field (i.e., Information Systems, Engineering, or Mathematics)
Documented competence in teaching pre-college and college-level Computer Science courses
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
Provide effective instruction of upper division computer science for populations representing diverse ages, backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities
Create a positive learning environment for students using appropriate teaching methods to support and enhance student success
Effectively teach selected upper division computer science courses

Impart a productive academic mindset that teaches all students, regardless of background, that they are capable of learning with practice and effort
Knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices
Ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching schedules and situations
Ability to work and communicate effectively with students and staff of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment
Utilize a variety of teaching strategies that facilitate student learning
Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment
Willingness to participate in college initiatives/governance
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated ability and desire to implement current education technology to facilitate student learning
Preferred
Two years of teaching experience at a post-secondary institution, preferably at a community college
Master's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
