Responsibilities
Provide guidance, encouragement, and real-life support to new and expectant mothers
Educate mothers during pregnancy on the pros and cons of breastfeeding infants
Serve as support for breastfeeding moms after delivery
Maintain confidentiality of client information
Keep accurate records of all client contacts and complete a monthly activity report for the Program Manager
Qualification
Required
Must have a high school diploma
Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License
Must have completion of NC WIC Breastfeeding Support Curriculum level 1 and 2 training and previous paid WIC Breast Feeding Peer Counselor experience
Must have at least 6 weeks personal experience breastfeeding
Must attend NC WIC approved Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training and breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor
Must respect each client by keeping information strictly confidential
Must keep accurate records of all contact made with each client and complete a monthly activity report that is shared with the Program Manager
Must have good communication skills and ability to deal tactfully with public by telephone as well as in person
