Environmental Health Specialist, Supervisor
NEOGOV is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist, Supervisor to oversee staff engaged in various environmental health programs in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. The role involves planning, organizing, and evaluating work related to enforcing environmental health and safety laws, as well as supervising subordinate personnel.

Responsibilities
Plans, directs and assigns the work of subordinate professional and clerical staff; trains staff; evaluates job performance; makes recommendations regarding hiring, promotion and disciplinary actions as necessary and appropriate
Ensures that inspections and investigations are completed in accordance with the appropriate laws and divisional policy; interprets and implements policies, regulations, procedures and programs for the work unit; establishes and maintains uniform methods of inspection and investigation, enforcement procedures, collection and processing of samples for laboratory examination
Assists in the formulation of operational policies, programs and procedures; identifies operational problems or inefficiencies and recommends corrective action
Represents the Environmental Health Division before community groups, political and appointed bodies; hears complaints and makes decisions regarding their disposition
Qualification
Required
At least two (2) years lead or supervisory training and experience in environmental health or a related field
At least five (5) years of experience as an environmental health professional with a recognized environmental agency, organization or company
Have education and/or experience in civil engineering and/or geology
California Professional Civil Engineer or Geologist license
Demonstrated ability to problem solve and communicate well with staff and clients
Strong customer service skills
Demonstrated ability to assure environmental health programs and services are implemented in a manner that seeks to promote and prioritize health equity
Willingness to exercise creativity, innovation, and flexibility while maintaining fundamentally sound public health practice
Ability to effectively use performance data for monitoring the improvement of organization functions and outcomes
Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment may be required
Preferred
Lead or supervisory training and experience is desirable
