Specialty Pharmacy Technician
Maryland Oncology Hematology is a healthcare provider specializing in the treatment of various cancers. They are seeking a Specialty Pharmacy Technician to assist with in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients, manage patient records, and ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations.

Responsibilities
Maintain accurate patient records, including demographics, current medication list, disease states list, allergy list, insurance information, and prescription information
Perform data entry, order processing, billing, and fulfillment within the pharmacy management system for prescriptions issued by oncology practice providers
Submit prior authorizations and manage them, perform non-judgmental tasks in coordination with clinical staff
Troubleshoot insurance claims in compliance with commercial and government payers’ standards and policies
Research and obtain copay assistance to minimize or eliminate patients' out-of-pocket prescription costs. Obtain patient financial assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs for high-cost specialty drugs
Communicate directly with providers and clinical staff to clarify prescription details as required
Manage drug inventory, including medication ordering, receipt of orders, invoices, and reporting drug shortages or recalls to pharmacist for escalation. Ensure that the most cost-effective drugs are ordered from vendors under guidance by a registered pharmacist
Assists with drug recalls and expired or non-utilized drug returns
Prepare and label prescriptions and ensure they are checked for accuracy by a physician or registered pharmacist. Ensure prescriptions and paperwork are signed off by a physician or pharmacist
Obtain patient or patient representative signatures on all medications being dispensed
Maintain and file daily reports. Manage daily and monthly reporting within the pharmacy management system
Maintain detailed and thorough workflow notes for all tasks performed
Maintain prescription records and proactively self-audit to identify potential errors and reduce PBM audit risk
Assist with patient monitoring activities, including follow up on prescription refills under request of providers or registered pharmacist
Interact with patients regarding prescription dispensing, financial assistance, and patient follow-up
Maintain safety of the medically integrated dispensing services by adhering to infection-control procedures, policies, and regulations
Strictly abide by hazardous drug handling as outlined by OSHA and USP 800 rules and regulations
Independently performs required tasks in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate required
State of Illinois pharmacy technician license required
Must obtain certification prior to hire date through PTCB
Proficiency in pharmacy calculations required
Strong communication skills required
Preferred
Specialty and/or oncology experience in pharmacy setting strongly preferred
Oncology experience strongly preferred
Retail experience strongly preferred
