Postdoctoral Researcher - Survey Science/Time Domain Astronomy

Penn State University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The successful applicant will engage in research related to the analysis of data from various astronomical surveys and will collaborate with multiple research groups.

Higher Education

Responsibilities

Work on projects related to analysis of Rubin, Euclid, and La Silla Schmidt Southern Survey data
Implement multi-resolution forward modeling techniques for joint survey processing of Rubin and Euclid
Conduct time-domain science across Rubin, Euclid, and LS4
Study variable AGN populations
Engage in time-delay cosmography with strongly lensed supernovae
Investigate changing-look AGN/tidal disruption event/supernova host galaxy studies
Join collaborative efforts from various working groups associated with Rubin, Euclid, and LS4

Qualification

In PhysicsHPC systemsMachine learningPythonTransient scienceResearch skillsCollaboration

Required

A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required
Experience with HPC systems, jax, python, or similar programming languages, machine learning, and transient/AGN science would be an advantage
