Breaking News Reporting Intern, Summer 2026
Hearst Magazines is seeking Breaking News Reporting Interns for the San Francisco Chronicle to join their breaking news team. Interns will receive training and mentoring while covering a variety of stories, focusing on breaking news and engaging audience projects.

Report and write breaking news articles on tight deadlines

Qualification
Required
All college students are encouraged to apply, with preference given to students who are either studying at or have recently completed a degree at a Bay Area four-year or community college
This position is full-time, based in San Francisco and likely Monday-to-Friday
Weekend, evening and holiday work may be required as news warrants
Strong writing skills are important, as is a strict dedication to accuracy, fairness and inclusiveness
Someone eager to find and chase good stories, with an eye for the details, headlines, angles and quotes that will capture readers' attention
Preferred
Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred, but not required
