Senior Manager Engineering - Control Plane
Starburst is a data platform for analytics, applications, and AI, unifying data across clouds and on-premises. The Senior Manager, Engineering - Control Plane will lead a team responsible for developing the SaaS platform Galaxy, focusing on building a competitive data lake analytics platform while ensuring team growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability
Drive and deliver the vision for serverless SaaS and end to end functionality for data lake analytics platform covering ingestion, data management and governance
Help employees grow through career development, coaching, and mentoring while guiding senior contributors to maximize their potential. You'll provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans, defining goals, performing evaluations, and collaborating with employees on their objectives. Most of all, ensure employees are having fun with their work
Own, operate, and maintain your team’s services. Employ Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers. Enhance and maintain a rotating on-call incident escalation and response process
Represent your team’s operational maturity to Starburst’s executives and product teams across the company
Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers and Tech Leads to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities
Act as an ambassador for Starburst, recruiting and motivating top talent
Qualification
Required
4+ years of engineering management experience with a total of 8 years or more experience
A track record of leading distributed systems engineering and operations teams in software companies
Demonstrated expertise in building and running a platform in multiple locations at Billions of events/week or greater scale either on-premise or in public cloud
Specific expertise in Highly Available data architectures across multiple availability zones is highly desired
Passionate about engineering hygiene and operational excellence
Familiar with agile processes, continuous integration, and test automation
Strategic thinker as it relates to scale and removing humans from the loop
Thrives when operating in broad scope, from conception through the continuous operation of 24x7 services to defined SLA's
Ability to distill complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans for the team
Ability to represent customers' perspectives and plan for how they will be impacted by the services built
Preferred
Experience with career development, coaching, and mentoring
Experience in employing Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers
Experience in enhancing and maintaining a rotating on-call incident escalation and response process
