Responsibilities
Performs basic, entry-level civil engineering tasks of a limited degree of complexity and with an element of trainee assignments performed under immediate supervision
Works on a survey crew and assists in basic phases of survey work; takes notes in field books; may operate instruments and assist in other survey party functions for the purpose of training or temporary substitution for absent crew members
Performs basic, preliminary route and bridge surveys, construction staking, slope states, blue topping, establishing property lines, section corners, reference points, and benchmarks
Performs simple material testing, compaction tests and quantity measurements; makes basic mathematical calculations to determine materials required
Assists engineering staff with traffic studies
Assists in basic design and drafting projects, such as preparing plans of utility, location, and as-built construction projects; sketches maps and design drawings; plots survey data from hard copy to other drafting media
Performs routine office engineering tasks to assist engineering staff in the research, preparation and collection of data for computer processing, county records, or studies
Assists other Engineering Technicians in performing more complex projects and duties. Maintains computerized and manual records, logs and maps relating to assigned duties
Assists Engineering and Road Maintenance staff with annual chip seal program
Performs other duties in support of Public Works as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or G.E.D
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job
Employment at Franklin County is contingent upon the results of a background check and eligibility for coverage by the County's liability insurance carrier
Valid driver's license if driving a vehicle for County business
Preferred
Previous education or experience with complex mathematical calculations, geometry, geography, surveying
Current coursework in Engineering, Engineer in Training Certificate, or other applicable qualifications
