Responsibilities

Provides direct and indirect patient care on any hospital unit as assigned under the direction of a registered nurse or lead mental health Unit Coordinator
Provides for the personal care, engagement and comfort in order to meet the needs of psychiatric patients
Regularly engages with patients to ensure that patients are actively engaged with the treatment groups, activities and therapy or physician meetings in order to support the patient’s ongoing treatment goals
Monitors the unit’s patients for safety and provides information regarding therapeutic activities and engages patients throughout the day to encourage and support their treatment and therapy
Provides a clean, safe environment, is alert to risks and situations that may compromise patient safety and maintains par levels of equipment and supplies for patient care
Works closely and productively with nurses and other unit staff to assure overall coordinated and therapeutic functioning of the treatment milieu (open unit setting)
Provides input to improve the functioning of the unit system, rules, and schedule
Charts on patient interactions and engagement as well as patient presentation on an hourly basis
Responsible for ensuring that patient safety rounds (cues) are completed on every patient in regular increments in order to ensure patient safety and monitor harm risks
Records evidence of safety rounds and any anomalies which occur on the unit during the shift
Assists in training and mentors new employees

Required

Must be 21 years of age
High School graduate or have an equivalent to a High School diploma
At least two (2) years of college in a related field and/or be a Certified Nurses Assistant
At least two (2) years of experience in healthcare as a technician, optimally in a psychiatric setting
Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing
Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Patient observation rounds require continuous standing and walking, without stopping, from 10 to 145+ feet every 15 minutes a minimum of 2 hours per day, maximum of 8 hours per day
Must be able to kneel, grasp, bend at the waist, push/pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
