Composite Stress Engineer
Collins Aerospace is a leader in technologically advanced solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. They are seeking a Composite Stress Engineer to support New Product Introduction and R&D projects, focusing on the analysis and design of composite structures for marine applications for the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities
Perform strength, fatigue, and fracture analyses of composite structures
Construct and analyze finite element structural models using ABAQUS CAE software
Perform preliminary sizing and detailed analysis of major structural components using classical hand analysis and FEA methods in support of preliminary design effort and formal drawing release
Assist with preliminary design trade studies
Prepare high quality detailed stress reports for customer review and approval
Review drawings with other company disciplines and provide structures input
Be responsible and accountable for all assigned stress tasks and their completion dates
Ensure compliance to established engineering methodologies
Communicate and make technical presentations to internal and external customers
Collaborate with engineering design team to support rapid design cycles
Conduct peer reviews of structural analysis work performed by other stress engineers or outside contractors
As needed, interface with the customers to ensure product requirements and structural analysis expectations are being met
Travel domestically up to 5%
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Experience with Finite Element analysis methods and tools using Abaqus CAE
Experience modeling multilayer orthotropic composite materials using Abaqus CAE
Knowledge of composite material mechanical properties
Knowledge of composite failure theories
Experience with a 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks
Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Preferred
Experience with both static and dynamic FE analysis methods
Experience with modeling elastomeric materials in FE analysis
Experience with modeling non-linear materials
Knowledge of mechanical vibrations and modal analysis
Experience with modeling hydrodynamic load cases
Experience with modeling UNDEX load cases
Master's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Materials Engineering
