Responsibilities
Lead design efforts for the analysis of fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control systems; Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports
Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
Provide in-process design reviews of fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence; Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
Provide technical training and mentoring; Provide technical assistance in resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff
Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in fire protection engineering; Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work; Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with fire protection system
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
Participate in project interviews and project presentations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Fire Protection Engineering required
7 years of experience minimum required in the building design consulting industry
Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency in principles of thermodynamics, fire dynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics as it relates to fire protection systems design in fire alarm, fire suppression, and smoke control systems for buildings
Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including fire dynamics simulation, hydraulic simulation, and intelligibility software
Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
Preferred
8 years of experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
