Parish Secretary
Archdiocese of Detroit is seeking a full-time Parish Secretary for Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Lincoln Park. The role involves providing receptionist and clerical services, maintaining parish records, and assisting with various administrative tasks to support the pastor and parish staff.

Responsibilities
Provides receptionist services for the parish office. This position also requires that the candidate is available to substitute at times in the school office at the discretion of the principal and/or parish business manager:
Records clear and accurate electronic and hand-written messages
Handles routine questions about parish policies, activities, and personnel
Greets and meets visitors in a friendly and courteous manner
Has ability to multitask and can work with people of various temperaments
Has ability to remain calm while working with people in distress
Provides secretarial and clerical services to the Pastor, bookkeeper, and senior parish staff:
Prepares regular bulk mailing
Screens and sorts incoming mail
Distributes mail and other related material
Maintains parish files in an orderly manner
Assists with ordering parish/church supplies
Prepares and edits weekly parish bulletin
Helps maintain and organize parish calendars
Provides bookkeeping/record keeping services for parish:
Records and maintains sacramental registries
Data entry for parish activities and parish councils
Assists parish staff with telephonic, electronic, or written communications
Qualification
Required
Must have highly developed computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher, Power Point. A working knowledge of Apple Pages, Numbers, and other related software would be preferable); knowledge of Parish Soft; type at least 50 words per minute with accuracy; ability to communicate effectively and clearly via telephone and email
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, problem solving skills, verbal and written communication skills when necessary
Must have basic knowledge of how a parish operates and is able to grasp how the parish office functions
Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters
Must have strong relational skills; the ability to work in a team setting and also work independently
Must have the ability to keep all office areas clean and organized
Candidates must be able to pass a background check and have or be willing to complete the Archdiocese of Detroit 'Protecting God's Children' workshop
Minimum Associates degree preferred, minimum 2 years successful administrative support experience - preferably in a parish or church setting
A working knowledge and appreciation of Roman Catholic faith and practice
A working knowledge of Roman Catholic faith and practice regarding Sacraments as well as funeral procedures
Preferred
Fluency or a working knowledge of Spanish is preferred
