Medical/ Administrative Assistant - Los Angeles

The Medical/Administrative Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Street Medicine team by managing administrative tasks and providing clinical support to vulnerable patients in the field.

Responsibilities
Manage referrals to specialists: initiate, schedule, track, and ensure follow-up
Secure prior authorizations for medications, imaging, and specialist visits
Verify insurance eligibility (Medi-Cal, Medicare) and assist with enrollment issues
Maintain medical supply inventory for field outreach
Document patient encounters, referrals, and authorizations in EHR system
Support ECM program through patient tracking, scheduling, and care coordination
Serve as office point of contact for patients, pharmacies, and community partners
Accompany provider (MD/DO/NP/PA) on street outreach to encampments, parks, and shelters
Build trusting relationships with patients and perform field intake
Take vital signs, assist with clinical procedures, wound care, and specimen collection
Prepare and administer medications/vaccinations under supervision
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Medical Assistant certification from accredited program
Current BLS certification
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid California Driver's License with clean record
Strong computer and organizational skills
Exceptional empathy, compassion, and communication abilities
Preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
1+ years clinical administrative experience with prior authorizations/referrals
Additional certifications (EMT, CNA, Phlebotomy)
