Responsibilities

Provide leadership to the team, direct and coordinate assignments, and review performance to ensure efficient and cost-effective staff use
Recruit, develop, train, and retain high-performing staff members
Conduct performance evaluations and provide clear instructions and guidance to team members
Promote company culture, values, and mission while supporting diversity initiatives
Interpret and communicate organizational goals and policies to staff
Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and compliance with company and client safety policies
Define and implement the service strategy for the Utility Modernization offering to deliver client value, grow services, and increase market awareness
Establish, communicate, and maintain accountability for the go-to-market strategy based on industry trends, with a focus on areas such as Utility Work and Asset Management, grid modernization, and digital solutions
Develop offering business plans, including pricing, positioning, and roadmaps for continuous improvement
Monitor offering performance and identify areas for enhancement
Evaluate partnership, marketing, sales, and licensing opportunities to expand business offerings
Manage profitable growth of the Utility Modernization offering, including staff assignments, utilization, and billable targets
Provide expert-level technical guidance and support for consulting engagements
Oversee project quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontracts, and client relations
Coordinate team workload, monitor performance, and communicate staffing needs to leadership
Support and lead QA/QC and compliance efforts across projects
Manage a pipeline of opportunities and collaborate with business development and sales teams to secure new work
Collaborate with managing directors, business line leads, project managers, and proposal staff to secure new work
Represent 1898 & Co. in client engagements, proposals, and external industry forums

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering, business, or related field from an accredited program and 13 years of relevant experience or applicable years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
Excellent business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements
Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and efficiently interpret large data sets
Ability to uncover customer needs, develop recommendations and deliver them persuasively
Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of financial concepts
Excellent planning and analytical skills
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients

Preferred

Proven experience developing and implementing corporate and operational strategies for utilities
Ability to lead clients through complex business transformation, from initial concept and business case to the design of new operating models
A deep understanding of the utility regulatory environment at both state and federal levels
Experience developing innovative regulatory strategies to support modernization investments
Demonstrated experience in utility reorganization, process redesign, and leading teams through significant operational change
A track record of helping organizations innovate on new ways of working to improve efficiency and adapt to industry shifts
A strong, high-level understanding of how digital solutions transform the utility business
The ability to articulate the strategic value of technologies (e.g., ADMS, DERMS, advanced analytics) without needing to be the technical implementation expert
Proficiency in developing strategies for utility work and asset management, including asset investment planning, risk-based maintenance programs, and performance management
A strong background in financial analysis, with demonstrated ability to develop and defend compelling business cases for large-scale transformation and modernization programs
A recognized presence in the utility industry as a strategic thinker, demonstrated through publications, speaking engagements, or active leadership in industry forums
Proven success in cultivating executive-level client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor, and leading strategic business development efforts
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor multidisciplinary teams
Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to present complex strategic concepts persuasively to all levels of clients and staff
