Director of Labor & Employee Relations

This pivotal leadership role offers the opportunity to shape employee and union relations within a dynamic, fast-paced setting, ensuring organizational stability and fostering effective communication across teams.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues, providing timely and effective support to managers and staff
Ensure resolution of employee concerns and conflicts, leveraging thorough understanding of collective bargaining agreements and labor laws
Counsel and guide management on disciplinary actions, terminations, and union interactions, in compliance with legal standards and union contracts
Work closely with 3 unions, managing timelines and negotiations related to collective bargaining agreements
Collaborate with internal legal teams to navigate complex employment and union laws, minimizing organizational risk
Contribute to training initiatives and stay current on HR laws, regulations, and best practices
Support flexible work arrangements, including occasional site visits and travel within New York, with the ability to work from home when not on-site
Qualification
Required
Extensive HR experience with a strong background in employee and union relations
Proven ability to work effectively with unionized employees, including knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and union negotiations
Experience in counseling, disciplinary processes, and terminations in union environments
Critical thinking and decisive decision-making skills, with the ability to remain agile under pressure
Resourceful and thorough, capable of managing urgent issues efficiently
Legal experience related to employment law is highly desirable
Must reside in New York and be flexible to travel to various sites as needed
Prior experience working with unions, understanding their timelines and constraints, is crucial
Preferred
SHRM certification is a plus, with a willingness to stay current on HR regulations and laws
