Executive Director - Southern MD
The American Red Cross is the world's largest humanitarian network, and they are seeking an Executive Director for their Southern Maryland Chapter. This role focuses on community relations and leadership, aiming to expand the Red Cross's impact and foster relationships within the community.
Responsibilities
Dynamic Leadership of the Southern Maryland Chapter: As the Chapter’s leader, you will be the vital link between the American Red Cross and the communities we serve, ensuring our presence is deeply felt and our mission creates lasting change
Building Transformative Relationships: You will be a key ambassador, cultivating meaningful relationships with influential community leaders, businesses, philanthropists, and elected officials
Championing an Influential Board of Directors: You will develop and lead a diverse, influential, and well-connected Board of Directors, empowering these local champions to galvanize resources and support for the Red Cross
Inspiring Strategic and Influential Leadership: As a visionary leader, you will inspire and motivate a high-performing team of volunteers and employees through influence to exceed fundraising, blood collection, and mission delivery goals
Creating a Culture of Inclusion and Belonging: You will leverage your influence to foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring employees and volunteers feel empowered to work as a cohesive, mission-driven team for impact and community outcomes
Visionary Chapter Planning: You’ll spearhead the chapter’s annual planning process, identifying key areas where we can make the greatest impact in the community
Key Regional Leadership Role: As a member of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Regional Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Regional CEO, playing an integral role in shaping the direction and success of the American Red Cross in the region
Serves as the Face of the Red Cross to maximize Red Cross presence and connectivity in the community and expand the community’s awareness of the breadth of the Red Cross contribution to the community
Manages a portfolio of strategic relationships with local elected officials and key community leaders and stakeholders with specific outcomes defined jointly by the Regional Executive and the Executive Director
Develops sustained community relationships to ensure capacity to achieve region mission goals
ED to lead the chapter in supporting achievement of region revenue target, including support of Sound the Alarm events/STA fundraising target achievement and meets assigned individual fundraising target by cultivating strong United Way relationships, meeting annual chapter board member giving campaign, and maintaining a small number of key donor accounts as defined by the Regional Executive
Supports achievement of the region volunteer engagement goals, blood collection goals, and community engagement mission goals by identifying and stewarding specific strategic relationships in the community and serving as a connector for internal stakeholders for these activities
Develops and manages the chapter board to effectively mobilize support and resources around the Red Cross mission
Develops, leads, and manages community volunteer leaders who are responsible for serving as the Face of the Red Cross in assigned territories; supporting mission capacity building by developing key community partnerships
Influences to create an environment of teamwork and inclusion to effectively deliver against the Red Cross mission by ensuring that information flow is facilitated
Serves as a member of the Elected Officials Liaison Network supporting disaster responses in the chapter area, regional area and nationally
Qualification
Required
Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or non-profit administration or equivalent experience required
Minimum of 7 years related experience
Demonstrated ability to exercise good and timely judgment in complex situations
Demonstrated ability for strong communications and influencing skills along with public speaking and writing
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies
Demonstrated ability to build sustain community relationships/partnerships
Proven experience in influencing others and building relationships
Proficient with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Familiarity with federal state and local employment laws
Ability to work on a team
A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required
Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined
Preferred
Master's degree in the field of community organization, public or business administration or non-profit management
